Our out side play environment is a special part of the Early Years Foundation Stage and has been redeveloped to support and inspire learning. The curriculum The Early Years Foundation Stage: The early years are a critical time in children’s development and we are committed to providing the very best start for our children. We are working within the new revised EYFS framework which focuses on seven areas of development: Prime Areas: • Communication and Language • Physical Development • Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Specific Areas: • Literacy • Mathematics • Understanding the World • Expressive Art and Design. Teaching is through first-hand experience and structured play. We provide a fun and secure environment which caters for all the children’s needs, through a rich and balanced curriculum. Through observation of the children’s play we find out their interests and use this information to plan their learning journey, allowing us to cater specifically for the learning styles of the children. Assessment and development of learning needs are on- going throughout the school year. Class teachers track the children’s progress and write their reports. The teachers plan with the teaching assistants and also with the input from children. Planning alongside the children ensures the teaching and learning is appropriate to their interests, needs and is active and hands on. Wellies and Waterproofs During this year we will be raising funds for a Wellies and Waterproofs area in our new school. We will be installing a new outdoor learning hut and developing our orchard and allotment. Any funds raised this year by the PTFA will go towards our outdoor space. 6
