Wimborne First School Prospectus
First Aid and Illness We will carry out first aid as normal in school with a few tweaks. All minor injuries cuts, bumps etc will be carried out in the bubble and all classrooms will have a first aid box, gloves, aprons, PPE etc, the only difference is that staff will be wearing gloves and an apron. If a child has an accident we will encourage them to get changed by themselves just to minimise risk. If they have a serious upset tummy we would contact parents to come and collect them as we cannot shower them down and get them changed. For D and V the 48 hour rule still applies. For more serious bumps, etc we have a large medical room set up. This is for a more serious injury and if the child needed support from additional first aiders or paramedics. Covid-19 symptoms, treatment and diagnosis If anyone develops coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms in an education setting they must be sent home and advised to follow the staying at home guidance. The guidance says that “if a child is awaiting collection, they should be moved, if possible, to a room where they can be isolated. Ideally, a window should be opened for ventilation. Due to the age of the children we would have a member of staff in the room as they can appropriately social distance the 2m. If they need to go to the bathroom while waiting to be collected, they should use a separate bathroom if possible. The bathroom should be cleaned and disinfected using standard cleaning products before being used by anyone else. PPE should be worn by staff caring for the child while they await collection if a distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained (such as for a very young child or a child with complex needs). In an emergency, call 999 if they are seriously ill or injured or their life is at risk. Do not visit the GP, pharmacy, urgent care centre or a hospital. If a member of staff has helped someone who was taken unwell with coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms , they do not need to go home unless they develop symptoms themselves. They should wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds after any contact with someone who is unwell. Cleaning the area with normal household disinfectant after someone with symptoms has left will reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people. To reassure parents we have moved our first aid room to a large classroom, that is light, airy and can easily meet the requirements of social distancing to protect everyone. There is also an outside door that adjoins the car park so you will be able to drive in and collect your child with minimal disruption or contact with others. We have many first aiders on site at all times who will be able to deal with situations if they arise. Young children have a range of illnesses not just COVID-19 and we will treat them all using common sense and a safe approach to protect us all. Confirmed case in a bubble If a child is sent home with COVID-19 symptoms they will have to self-isolate and take a COVID-19 test) these can now be booked for a child 5 years old and above. The child will have to self-isolate until the test results are back. If the test result is negative then the child can come back to school when a copy of the letter or text has been emailed to the school office. Please be aware - if a child or staff member in a bubble tests positive then the entire bubble will have to self-isolate for 14 days. We will inform parents and close down the bubble for 14 days. PPE The Government guidance is that PPE, especially face masks are not needed in school. We have bought a range of PPE for the staff to use if we believe a child or staff member might being 24
