Celestyal Cruises 2020/2021 Brochure - English EURO
Day 1: Venice - Is there a more magical place to start a cruise than the City of Masks? Probably not. Gondolas, canals, stunning buildings and the unmistakable air of romance. Stroll around St Mark’s Square, visit the Doge’s Palace and Basilica di San Marco, cross the Rialto Bridge, explore the maze of winding alleys and hidden narrow back streets and have lunch by the Grand Canal. Day 2: At sea - Time to enjoy the onboard activities. Day 3: Corfu - Welcome to one of the most diverse, greenest and fascinating of the Greek islands, the seventh largest. When it comes to myths and legends, Odysseus was shipwrecked and sent on his way and Poseidon settled down here - allegedly. Corfu Town is cosmopolitan, charming and very friendly. You will receive a warm welcome when you step ashore and will be intrigued by the Italian feel, in large part because of its Venetian architecture. The Old Town is the ideal place to wander, soak up the atmosphere and stay a while at one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants. You may enjoy a complimentary excursion to the Achilleion. Day 4: Patras - When we arrive in this, the largest city of the Peloponnese, its 3,000 year history as an important trading port will not be particularly obvious to you. But it was an important commercial centre under the Mycenaeans and Romans. Although it is very functional, Patras also has attractive squares, fun-filled streets and plenty of great restaurants and bars. The castle is well worth a visit and look out (you can’t really miss it) for the Rio-Andirio suspension bridge, quite a feat of engineering that links Patras with Western Continental Greece. You can take an optional excursion to the Romantic Adriatic 2020 mythical sanctuary of Zeus and the birthplace of the Olympic Games in Olympia. Day 5: Kotor - Kotor is a beautiful city set in a spectacular bay, a medieval maze of stunning architecture, lovely churches, museums, squares sprinkled with cafes and Venetian Palaces. It is 2,000 years old and you can trace its ancient Roman beginnings. It is UNESCO listed and we are sure you will find Kotor absolutely mesmerising. Join us on a complimentary walking tour, around the monumental city walls from the Middle Ages, criss-crossing the narrow streets to the most recognisable symbol of the city, the Cathedral of St Tryphon, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. Day 6: Dubrovnik - If it is your first visit to this city on the Adriatic (or even if it isn’t), there is a palpable sense of awe and wonder when you set eyes on the old town. You will probably fall in love with the limestone streets, baroque architecture and the shimmer of the water. A walk around the ancient city walls is an absolute must, not only to get a unique perspective on Dubrovnik but to fully appreciate the magnificent structure that has protected it for centuries. There are plenty of wonderful places to eat but you may be too busy drinking in the stunning beauty at every turn. Day 7: Split - The Venetian theme pops up again as we arrive in Split, the second city of Croatia. It was once a heavily fortified outpost of the Venetian City State, completely surrounded by the Ottoman Empire. Split is always vibrant and buzzing whilst also in part, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which encompasses Diocletian’s Palace, one of the world’s most important and impressive Roman monuments. Split has a dramatic and impressive setting, its coastal mountains the perfect backdrop to the turquoise waters of the Adriatic. Our visit here includes a complimentary walking tour, exploring the city’s historic heart. Day 8: Venice - You arrive back in Venice early morning.
